The Andhra Pradesh government has taken a significant step towards a sustainable future by unveiling its Sustainable Electric Mobility Policy 4.0. This ambitious policy aims to transform the state into a leading hub for electric vehicle (EV) innovation and manufacturing.
The new policy, which will be implemented from 2024 to 2029, seeks to address the slow adoption rate of EVs in the state and foster a robust local manufacturing ecosystem. Currently, Andhra Pradesh has approximately 1.78 crore vehicles, with only a fraction being electric. The state’s existing 601 public charging stations, averaging one station every 205 kilometers, highlights the urgent need for a more extensive charging infrastructure.
To achieve these ambitious goals, the policy emphasizes collaboration between various stakeholders, including public transportation providers, private fleet operators, and charging infrastructure developers. This holistic approach will foster a conducive environment for EV adoption and manufacturing.
By implementing this comprehensive policy, Andhra Pradesh aims to position itself as a pioneer in electric mobility, contributing to India’s overall goal of achieving sustainable and clean transportation.
