Brandworks Technologies, the leading manufacturer of OEMs, ODMs, and mobile accessories in India, recently engaged in an exclusive interaction with Mobility Magazine, Mr. Ishwar Kumhar, CEO of Brandworks Technologies Pvt Ltd, elaborates on the company’s innovations, R&D focus, manufacturing expansion, and global growth strategies in the electronics industry.
What are your key focus areas in India’s electronics ecosystem?
Brandworks is a design-led manufacturing company that specializes in both consumer and enterprise electronics. We have built an extensive infrastructure that supports large-scale manufacturing while also creating a strong supply chain by partnering with vendors. Our engineering and R&D teams are consistently innovating, developing cutting-edge products for the Indian market, and preparing for global expansion.
What are the key initiatives that Brandworks is planning for the next financial year?
One of our major initiatives is setting up a large R&D infrastructure in Bangalore. This facility will focus on developing new products in both the consumer and enterprise segments. Additionally, we are planning to establish a mega factory within the next 18 to 24 months. This factory will enhance backward integration in manufacturing, helping us strengthen our production capabilities and improve efficiency.
How do you see growth, opportunities, and challenges in the Indian market?
The Indian market is experiencing tremendous growth, and the opportunities are immense. There is a consistent demand our existing products, but we also see a surge in new product categories. Consumers and businesses are shifting their focus from low-cost products to high-quality, efficient solutions.
Challenges always exist, but they also present opportunities. The biggest challenge right now is in the middle of the supply chain. However, government initiatives like the PLI scheme are addressing these issues gradually. Though it will take time, these policies will ultimately help mitigate supply chain challenges and foster growth.
What new product lines is Brandworks currently working on?
We initially started with consumer electronics, particularly power backup devices like chargers and power banks. We are market leaders in this segment. We have since expanded into home audio, where we have developed home theater systems in partnership with Dolby. We are also investing in party speakers and have established backward integration by working closely with chip manufacturers. Additionally, we have entered the financial devices sector, collaborating with NPCI to build hardware solutions. This segment is growing rapidly, and we are developing software like TMS and DMS alongside hardware. Another area of focus is mobility surveillance. We are targeting both consumer and enterprise markets with surveillance solutions, and this category is currently under incubation within our R&D division. Looking ahead, we are considering entering the EV accessories segment, which is in our pipeline.
How is AI impacting manufacturing and product development at Brandworks?
AI is undoubtedly shaping the future of manufacturing. AI-powered solutions are already being integrated into manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency, quality control, and production management. At Brandworks, we are gradually implementing AI in our manufacturing operations.
On the product development front, AI is still in its early stages. The current challenge is the high cost of GPUs and AI hardware. However, in the next three to four years, we expect to see significant advancements in AI-driven consumer and enterprise products. As technology evolves and costs decrease, AI integration in electronics manufacturing will become more widespread.
What global opportunities do you see for Indian manufacturers?
Global opportunities are plentiful, but they need to be approached strategically. Simply focusing on manufacturing is not enough; companies must also emphasize R&D and innovation. International customers demand high-quality, end-to-end solutions rather than just assembled products.
For Indian manufacturers to succeed globally, we need to develop smart solutions, establish well-defined processes, and maintain high-quality standards. A shortcut approach will not work in the long run. By combining R&D with manufacturing, we can create a strong foothold in global markets.
What is your message to the upcoming entrepreneurs in India?
My message is simple: collaboration and mutual support are essential for building a strong electronics ecosystem. New entrepreneurs must focus on R&D, supply chain development, and manufacturing. We need platforms that support knowledge-sharing and industry-wide collaboration.
I strongly encourage IITians, IIM graduates, and young innovators to enter the electronics sector and solve large-scale problems. The more we invest in innovation and technology, the faster we can build a self-reliant and globally competitive electronics industry in India.
