Registration of non-electric two-wheelers is likely to be stopped from June 1, 2023, in Chandigarh under the 2022 EV Policy of the UT administration. As per the policy, 6,200 petrol bikes can be registered in 2023-24 but many vehicles are already registered and the target may be reached earlier than expected leaving no scope except to stall the new registrations for the year.

Dealers said that people are still not fully convinced about EVs. Of the 21,000 two-wheelers sold last year, around 19,500 were petrol bikes. E-bikes were just close to 1500. Instead of closing registration, people should be encouraged by giving incentives.
