Hisense India is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Hisense Group, a global leader in consumer electronics and home appliances. During an exclusive interaction with Mobility Magazine, Mr. Pankaj Rana, CEO, Hisense India, shares insights into the company’s India growth strategy, technology vision, expanding portfolio, retail presence, and future plans.

How has Hisense’s India journey evolved, and what are your key growth milestones?

Hisense has been present in India for the last three to four years. During the initial years, our business was largely focused on the e-commerce channel. Over the last one year, we have significantly expanded our presence in the offline retail market. Today, our products are available across more than 4,000 retail outlets in India.

Globally, Hisense is a technology-driven company with a presence in more than 160 countries and over 35 R&D centres. With more than 100,000 employees and a global business of around $30 billion, we have built strong capabilities across multiple consumer electronics and home appliance categories.

What are the key categories Hisense is currently focusing on in India?

At present, we are focusing on three major categories in India—televisions, air conditioners and washing machines. Washing machines are an important new focus area for us, and we are bringing a complete portfolio covering front-load, top-load and semi-automatic models.

Our objective is to build a strong and comprehensive portfolio in India. Over the next one to one-and-a-half years, we plan to expand into categories such as refrigerators, dishwashers and small domestic appliances. This will enable consumers to experience a much wider range of Hisense products in the Indian market.

What opportunities does Hisense see in India’s competitive consumer electronics market?

India is a very important market for Hisense, and we see significant long-term potential here. Our strategy is to expand aggressively while building a strong offline ecosystem alongside our existing e-commerce presence. We want consumers, channel partners and the wider market to understand the scale, technology capabilities and global strength of Hisense. In several international markets, Hisense is already among the leading players. For example, in the Middle East and Africa, we are number one in refrigerators and number two in televisions. Across Europe, we are among the top three players in categories such as televisions, refrigerators, washing machines and air conditioners. Our ambition is to bring this global strength and technology expertise to Indian consumers.

How is Hisense making advanced technology more accessible to Indian consumers?

Being a technology company, our focus is to democratise advanced technology and make it accessible to a wider consumer base. Television is one of the areas where we are strongly focused on this objective. Technologies such as Mini LED are becoming increasingly relevant, and we believe consumers should be able to experience premium picture quality at more accessible price points.

Going forward, we also see significant potential for advanced display technologies such as RGB. Along with picture quality, we are looking at new television concepts that combine technology, design and lifestyle to meet the evolving expectations of Indian consumers.

What is Hisense’s strategy for strengthening its air-conditioning business in India?

We look at ourselves as a complete air solutions company. Our portfolio includes room air conditioners as well as commercial solutions such as VRF systems, chillers and tower air conditioners. For residential consumers, our focus is on delivering high efficiency, faster cooling and low-noise performance. Our Intellipro series is designed around these requirements. At the same time, we are also focusing on heavy-duty air-conditioning solutions for consumers who need powerful and reliable performance.

What are your ambitions for the washing machine category in India?

Washing machines are an important growth opportunity for us. We are entering the category with a complete range covering front-load, top-load and semi-automatic washing machines. Our objective is clear—we want to establish Hisense as a dominant player in the Indian washing machine market. We will focus on technology, performance, reliability and consumer needs while building the category through a strong retail and distribution network.

How do sports sponsorships help Hisense strengthen its global brand presence?

Sports is a powerful medium because it brings people together across countries and cultures. Hisense has been deeply associated with football and has been an official sponsor of the last three FIFA World Cups, including the tournaments held in Russia, Qatar and the 2026 edition hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. This global association has helped us build strong brand recognition. At the same time, sponsorship is only one part of our strategy. Our core strength remains technology and innovation. We continuously evolve our products and technologies to create a better experience for consumers.

What key message does Hisense want to share with Indian consumers?

Our message is simple: we want to make advanced technology more accessible to Indian consumers. We want consumers to experience global-quality technology across televisions, air conditioners, washing machines and, eventually, a much broader range of home appliances.

India is a strategic market for Hisense, and our journey here is still at an early stage. With our expanding retail presence, growing product portfolio and global technology capabilities, we are confident about building a strong and long-term relationship with Indian consumers.
