During an interaction with Mobility Magazine, Mr. Deepak Arora, Co-Founder, HOPPUP, elaborates on the HOPPUP’s journey, offline expansion, local manufacturing, and future plans.
Please tell us about journey of the HOPPUP?
We started HOPPUP under Optimum Technologies Private Limited in 2021 with a vision to cater to the youth of India, particularly in Tier 2 and 3 cities. Our initial focus was on the e-commerce market, launching our products on platforms like Flipkart, Amazon, and Meesho. Over the past 2 to 3 years, we have successfully positioned our brand in the online market. With a strong foundation in place, we recently ventured into offline retail, and the response has been very encouraging.
How has the transition from online to offline been for HOPPUP?
We started our offline operations just six months ago, and the journey so far has been exciting. The response from distributors and customers has reinforced our belief in the potential of the offline market. With the increasing demand for high-quality yet affordable mobile accessories, we see great opportunities in expanding our retail presence across India.
Brief us about the HOPPUP’s current portfolio and expansion plans?
At present, our product portfolio includes True Wireless Stereo (TWS) earbuds and neckbands. However, we have ambitious expansion plans. Over the next 3 to 4 months, we aim to introduce a complete range of mobile accessories, including power banks, chargers, and data cables. This will help us cater to a broader customer base and strengthen our presence in the mobile accessories market.
What makes the Tier 2 and 3 cities an attractive space for HOPPUP?
The Indian market is witnessing tremendous growth, particularly in Tier 2 and 3 cities, where the Internet penetration has significantly increased. Consumers in these regions now have easier access to platforms like Flipkart, Amazon, and Meesho, allowing them to explore and purchase branded products. Our focus is on offering high-quality mobile accessories at an affordable price point, making premium products accessible to a larger audience.
Please share with us about HOPPUP’s USPs and pricing strategy?
We cater to the mass-premium segment, offering products in the mid-range price category. Our current pricing ranges between ₹699 and ₹1,099. One of our strongest USPs is our superior sound quality and unique product designs. Compared to several prominent brands, we have received highly positive feedback from customers and distributors. Our focus remains on providing the best value for money.
How is HOPPUP’s local manufacturing progressing?
We are proud to be a part of the ‘Make in India’ initiative. Recently, we manufactured 3 lakh TWS units in India. We collaborated with local vendors to source components and assembled the products here. This marks a significant step in supporting the government’s push for local manufacturing while benefiting from reduced import duties. We are committed to expanding our manufacturing capabilities in India.
What is special about HOPPUP’s branding strategy?
Over my seven years in the industry, I have observed a shift in consumer preferences. Branding has become crucial, even in smaller cities. Consumers today seek a branded experience rather than generic products. They look for high-quality, value-for-money products and expect warranties and after-sales support. At HOPPUP, we ensure our customers receive not just a product but an experience.
What kind of after-sales service does HOPPUP provide?
We offer a 1-year warranty on all our products, ensuring that customers receive seamless after-sales service. Our easy replacement policy benefits both end-users and retailers, reinforcing trust in our brand. Providing excellent customer service is a priority for us.
