MediaTek, a global fabless semiconductor company that enables nearly 2 billion connected devices a year, is a market leader in developing innovative systems-on-chip (SoC) for mobile devices, home entertainment, connectivity and IoT products.
MediaTek led the smartphone system-on-chip (SoC) market in Q3 of 2021 with an increased share of 40%, according to a report by the research firm, Counterpoint Research. Global smartphone AP (Application Processor)/SoC (System on Chip) shipments grew 6% YoY in Q3 2021, according to the latest research from Counterpoint’s Foundry and AP/SoC Service. 5G smartphone SoC shipments grew almost two times compared to the same period last year.

Recently launched MediaTek’s flagship chipset- Dimensity 9000 integrates the cutting-edge Armv9 CPU architecture for a true flagship experience. The octa-core CPU has one ultra-Cortex-X2 core operating at up to 3.05 GHz, three performance A710 cores operating at up to 2.85GHz and four efficient Cortex-A510 cores. With the integrated LPDDR5X supporting up to 7500 Mbps, along with an 8MB L3 cache and 6 MB system cache, the Dimensity 9000 is built for the massive bandwidth demands of the mobile market. Additionally, the chipset integrates MediaTek’s fifth generation Application Processor Unit (APU 5.0), which offers 4X power efficiency gains compared to the previous generation APU, for the ideal balance of performance and power efficiency for a wide range of AI multimedia, gaming, camera and video experiences.

Research Director, Mr. Dale Gai comments, “MediaTek led the smartphone SoC market with a 40% share, driven by a competitive 5G SoC and high demand for the 4G SoC. MediaTek’s revenues grew sequentially as the mix of the mid-end and high-end SoC portfolios grew. The blended ASP will continue to increase due to the launch of flagship products in Q1 2022 and an increase in chipset prices starting Q4 2021. 4G chipsets continued to be in strong demand due to the ongoing shortages, which have affected 4G SoCs more.”

MediaTek as a part of its innovations announced the new MediaTek Filogic 130 and Filogic 130A system-on-chips (SoCs) which both integrate a microprocessor (MCU), AI engine, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 subsystems, and a power management unit (PMU) into a single chip. Filogic 130A also integrates an audio digital signal processor to allow device makers to easily add voice assistants and other services into their products. These all-in-one solutions deliver energy-efficient, reliable and high-performance connectivity in small form factor designs that are ideal for a wide range of IoT devices.
