The Mumbai Mobile Distributor Association (MMDA) recently held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2024 at Ikshana Resorts & Spa, Lonavala, on August 27, 2024. The event saw participation from nearly 100 industry professionals from across Maharashtra. The meeting featured key discussions on finance and GST, led by Ms. Deepali Mehta, a prominent speaker in the field.
The meeting highlighted the significance of education within the industry, emphasizing that it is essential for the growth and sustainability of businesses, regardless of their size. Since its establishment in 2016, MMDA has consistently worked towards enhancing industry knowledge and practices, even amid challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic. The association has been recognized as one of the best in India, demonstrating its commitment to excellence.
A critical issue addressed during the AGM was the management of Bounced Cheques, a common concern within the industry. The association has implemented measures to reduce the occurrence of Bounced Cheques by encouraging retailers and distributors to adopt more disciplined financial practices. These efforts have significantly lowered the incidence of Bounced Cheques, benefiting all parties involved.
The meeting also touched on the standardization of salaries within the industry, particularly for delivery and sales executives. While salary variations exist across different companies, the industry in Mumbai has seen a stable turnover rate, with no significant fluctuations even post-COVID. This stability is a testament to the collective efforts of the industry to ensure fair and consistent compensation practices.
Mr. Mukesh Gupta, President, MMDA said, “Since 2016, we’ve been at the helm of MMDA, committed to bridging the gap between brands and retailers, ensuring a thriving environment for all. As industry challenges like investment, store survival, and GST complexities arise, we stand as guides and experts, helping navigate the path forward. Our mission is to empower members through active engagement, regular updates, and a strong commitment to our obligations. Together, we’re shaping the future of the mobile retail industry, not just in Mumbai, but across India.”
Mr. Himanshu Shah, Vice president of MMDA said, “Today’s meeting with the Mumbai Mobile Distributors Association was a significant step forward in empowering our partners and driving mutual growth. We delved deep into the evolving retail landscape, discussing everything from GST intricacies to the need for stronger financial support and credit management. Our focus remains on bridging the gap between brands and retailers, fostering a collaborative environment where everyone thrives. By continually engaging with industry experts and sharing innovative ideas, we aim to build a more profitable, efficient, and legally sound business ecosystem.”
Mr. Milind Karangutkar, Joint Secretary of MMDA said, “Regional collaboration is the backbone of our success at MMDA. By forming regional groups and holding regular meetings, we empower distributors to tackle challenges at the local level, from retailer issues to delivery logistics. Our focus on data exchange and problem-solving within these groups strengthens the entire community. With ongoing discussions, expert insights, and collective action, we are making the regional bodies more powerful and effective. Together, we will continue to build a stronger, more connected network that benefits everyone involved.”
Overall, the AGM 2024 underscored the importance of education, financial discipline, and collaboration within the industry. Despite the challenges faced, the association remains committed to fostering growth and maintaining consistency in policies, ensuring the continued success of the industry in Mumbai.
