PhonePe India’s leading digital payments platform today announced that it has partnered with Mumbai Metro One to launch the Smartcard recharge option via the PhonePe app.

This partnership will help drive the adoption of UPI as a payment mode for Smartcard recharges since commute is a very high frequency use case. PhonePe users no longer need to stand in long queues or download an additional app to recharge their smart cards. They can directly pay from their bank accounts using UPI without having to top up any wallet.

PhonePe is a leader in merchant UPI transactions and this partnership will go a long way in increasing digital transactions for Mumbai Metro recharges. This adds to PhonePe’s travel & commute partner stores, which already has Delhi metro, Ola, Goibibo, Oyo, Redbus and Abhibus.

As a launch offer PhonePe is also offering upto Rs.90 cashback for 3 Mumbai Metro smart card recharges from October 4th to 13th.

To avail the offer:
Users need to download the PhonePe app and click on the “Äpps” icon in the Home Page and then select “Mumbai Metro” under the Metro section.

After completing the payment, users need to tap the smartcard on Automatic Vending Machine (AVM) at any platform to complete the recharge.
