The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) officially unveiled the inaugural Sher-e-Punjab T20 League at the PCA International Cricket Stadium, New Chandigarh, marking the beginning of a new era for cricket in the state. Scheduled to be held from August 30 to September 13, the league aims to provide a professional platform for emerging cricketers while strengthening Punjab’s rich cricketing legacy.
The grand launch ceremony was attended by Punjab Cricket Association Secretary Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, President Amarjeet Singh Mehta, Indian captain Shubman Gill, Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh, senior PCA officials, franchise owners, and distinguished guests. The official logo of the tournament was also unveiled, building excitement ahead of the league’s inaugural season.
Six Visionary Franchise Owners Take Charge
One of the highlights of the launch was the introduction and felicitation of the franchise owners, who will lead six city-based teams in the tournament:
- Mr. Rajesh Chopra – Team Jalandhar
- Mr. Ramandeep Nagpal – Team Fazilka
- Mr. Manpreet Samana – Team Mohali
- Mr. Harshit Agarwal & Mr. Manoj Bansal – Team Ludhiana
- Dr. Shabaz Singh – Team Amritsar
- Mr. Gaurav Grover – Team Bathinda
These entrepreneurs and sports enthusiasts have come together with a shared vision of promoting grassroots cricket, nurturing young talent, and creating a competitive platform that can produce future stars for Punjab and India.

A Star-Studded Tournament
The Sher-e-Punjab T20 League will feature some of the biggest names in Indian cricket, including Shubman Gill, Arshdeep Singh, Abhishek Sharma, Prabhsimran Singh, Ramandeep Singh, and Gurnoor Brar. Their participation is expected to inspire young players while significantly raising the league’s competitive standards.
Six franchises will compete in 27 high-intensity matches in a round-robin format before the knockout stages, promising exciting cricket for fans across the state.

Addressing the gathering, India captain Shubman Gill described the league as an excellent opportunity for aspiring cricketers.

PCA Secretary Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer emphasized Punjab’s remarkable contribution to Indian cricket, recalling legends from Lala Amarnath and Yuvraj Singh to current stars like Shubman Gill, Arshdeep Singh, Prabhsimran Singh, and Harmanpreet Kaur.
He stated that the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League is a visionary initiative supported by Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, designed to provide emerging cricketers with a professional pathway to higher levels of the game.
“The league will allow young players to compete alongside international stars, gain valuable experience, and take the next step in their cricketing journey. We are confident it will become one of India’s premier domestic T20 competitions,” he said.
PCA President Amarjeet Singh Mehta added that the tournament will offer aspiring players the rare opportunity to share dressing rooms with established international cricketers while showcasing their abilities on a larger stage.
Auction on August 9
The player auction for the inaugural edition will be held on August 9, where the six franchises representing Amritsar, Bathinda, Fazilka, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, and Mohali will finalize their squads.
Each franchise will have a salary purse of ₹45 lakh. The Marquee Player has been valued at ₹10 lakh, while the base price for an Icon Player starts at ₹1.5 lakh. Base prices have also been fixed at ₹1 lakh for Punjab First-Class players, ₹75,000 for U-23 players, ₹50,000 for U-19 players, and ₹20,000 for District players. Every franchise can register a maximum squad of 20 players.
