“This panel, due to the sheer weight of its members, demonstrates that many Indian manufacturers are on a roll in electronics manufacturing, and the Indian manufacturing is picking up momentum. If you are a serious manufacturer, India is lucky with its high domestic demand and an underpenetrated market offering great opportunities. In addition, we should also focus on the export market to boost the economy. The export market not only gives you to scale up your volume to gain the advantage of Economies of Scale needed to make your factory more cost-efficient and productive but also provides you with the experience and exposure of producing world-class products.”

“We were the first to start working with EMS companies, and later started our own manufacturing unit. In general, there have been two different phases in the evolution of electronic manufacturing for the Indian market. Though electronic manufacturing started way back in the 60’s, it newer reached significant levels and the serious manufacturing and R&D were not there. Starting from 2014, we saw a fresh acceleration in the manufacturing in the electronics sector. The government of India has introduced numerous schemes and offers, and while there are still bottlenecks, like bureaucracy, manufacturing, we crossed several milestones. We can rapid scale up in the next five years.”

“The opportunity in manufacturing in India is immense. DAEWOO, a globally acclaimed Korean brand, has extended its legacy to the vibrant Indian market. The penetration rates today for TVs are 72%, refrigerators 33%, washing machines 8%, and air conditioners 8%. Today, most households want to purchase these products as incomes rise and the desire for home appliances increases. This presents an opportunity for the Indian brands as well as global brands to manufacture in India. The domestic landscape is growing, and the government has created numerous resources to boost the economy, GDP, reduce foreign exchange dependence, and create job opportunities. The shift away from China post-Covid has accelerated this movement.”

“If AI is used in manufacturing, it will reduce our operational costs by multiple times through increasing machine life and efficiency by 15 to 20%, saving money and reducing energy consumption by 20 to 30%. Additionally, we can reduce inventory costs by 25 to 30%, making us globally competitive. Although we face challenges, such as GST issues, if we align our processes with international standards, we can reduce costs and increase efficiency through skill transformation and efficient use of industry applications. If AI is efficiently, we can contribute $1 trillion to GDP from manufacturing alone in India by 2030.”

“Vida is a Singapore-based company, and since our launch in 2010, we forayed successfully into the African telecom markets. We are now one of the most trusted, well-known, and leading OEM providers. For us, India is an attractive market due to huge potential and rapid growth. Before Vida entered the Indian market, we conducted proper market research with one of the biggest market research companies in the country. Our current target is the premium segment. Quality and premiumization are key for the new generation, which will eventually help us to make a mark in the global world and be one of the leading export brands.”

“With a presence in more than 110 countries worldwide, we are excited to contribute to India’s remarkable economic growth and foster prosperity among its citizens. We emphasize the importance of building a robust manufacturing ecosystem, addressing challenges, and leveraging opportunities to make India self-reliant. Many industry leaders and innovators are contributing to this journey, inspiring continuous improvement and collaboration. India is one of the fastest-developing economies in the world, and despite a higher reliance on imports, India’s electronics sector has witnessed rapid growth in recent years. Technological innovations like the rollout of 5G and IoT are accelerating the adoption of electronic products in the country.”

“The Indian government has been encouraging the domestic manufacturers by offering reduced import duties on components and decreasing manufacturing costs. The government has also opened centers for training the workforce under the Skilled India initiative, which wasn’t prevalent before. Digital India courses are designed to be relevant to the industry. Today, manufacturers are getting trained workers to hire. The ‘Make in India’ initiative has boomed in India as the demand for electronics has risen, especially from the lower-middle and middle-class communities. India’s demographic advantage, with a young workforce, and infrastructure development have eased transportation, reducing product costs by 5-6%. We were the first in the world to introduce fast-charging products and have invested heavily in R&D for hardware. Once technology is imported, manufacturing becomes easy, and automation can significantly reduce manufacturing costs.”

Mr. Gaurav Dureja, Founder & Director, SigmaVizin Electronics Pvt Ltd

“The ecosystem for manufacturing in India is just beginning to take shape. Manufacturing is not a one-day process, and it will take another 20 years to reach a commendable level. We need to build associations and involve experts. If we work consistently for 2-3 years, we can make it happen. We must grab this opportunity, and with effort, we can grow the industry.”

Mr. Rajesh Chopra, Managing Director, Rise Electronics Pvt Ltd

“We have the brains and skills in India, but we need to choose the right product, set up a manufacturing unit, and invest in R&D. Our company got a patent for a CCTV camera with an air quality index last year. Though we are importing the products at present, in the next 2-3 years, we plan to manufacture everything in India.”

In a Nutshell

The ‘Make in India’ initiative has significantly boosted the manufacturing sector by creating a favorable ecosystem for growth. Government policies have reduced the import duties on components and introduced schemes that attract investment in various industries, including electronics, automotive, and textiles.
