vivo, an innovative smartphone brand, kicked-off its tenth anniversary celebrations in India by hosting the second edition of vivo Tech Day 2024. Over the past ten years, vivo has become synonymous with innovation and excellence, contributing significantly to the development of the Indian mobile ecosystem.
During the experiential event, vivo showcased it’s latest technology offerings built to solve unique consumer needs basis understanding of the market. At a unique exploratory showcase, vivo’s R&D experts gave a unique behind the scenes tour of various technologies. A constellation of key partners international and Indian – demonstrated various unique technologies that make way into vivo smartphones:
- vivo-ZEISS co-engineered imaging system showcase – To further elevate its imaging capabilities, vivo brand has deepened its global partnership with ZEISS. The T* Coating, which enhances image clarity and reduces light reflection; the ZEISS APO Telephoto lens, providing up to 100x zoom; and the Multifocal Portraits feature, supporting five focal lengths (24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, 100mm) for professional-quality portraits were some of the technologies on display. This unique partnership has created new benchmarks for smartphone camera photography and is constantly challenging the normal by continued innovation.
- vivo camera prowess – Continuing to build upon the superior photography experience and future-ready camera innovations, vivo introduced the next-generation V3+ chip, which has improved from 12nm in V1 to 6nm architecture with improved AI Video algorithm support and providing support for multi-algorithm concurrency resulting in stronger performance and lower power consumption.
vivo brand also has a global collaboration with Sony to develop the 50MP LYT 900 [one-inch type] sensor, with larger diodes for superior low-light performance.
- The SCHOTT Challenge lab – vivo’s enduring partnership with SCHOTT has provided exceptional cover glass for its premium smartphones. SCHOTT, a 140 year old Germany-based company, is known for its innovative glass technology, delivers solutions that meet the evolving demands of today’s consumers. The company’s founder and namesake, Otto Schott, is credited with the invention of borosilicate glass. The Xensation® series by SCHOTT excels in flexibility, strength, and durability. These cover glass types achieve superior break resistance through combinations of unique glass compositions with advanced ion exchange processes during chemical strengthening while maintaining a sleek profile that enhances the multimedia experience.
SCHOTT demonstrated the durability of their cover glass with rigorous Set Drop Tests, Ball Drop Tests, Bending Tests, and Folding Tests, highlighting their commitment to resilient and reliable smartphone protection.
- AI Technology – To elevate productivity on vivo smartphones, vivo brand has a partnership with Google to integrate cutting-edge AI features. For instance, X Fold3 Pro leverages advanced AI tools from Google’s Gemini family on Vertex AI to streamline workflows, overcome language barriers, and enhance efficiency. Soon to be launched, V40 Series introduces AI Imaging capabilities which will enhance user photography experience and provide intuitive technology accessible to consumers.
- Telecommunication Advancements – vivo is the largest standalone smartphone contributor brand to 3GPP. To enrich and make the consumer smartphone experience, vivo has around over 6000 patents and has been making continuous contributions to the 3GPP standards since 2017, resulting with over 15,000 proposals to 3GPP.
- iQOO – iQOO, a high-performance brand of vivo, presented its next-generation innovations and advanced technologies. The iQOO booth prominently featured their premium partnership with BMW M Motorsport, which served as the inspiration behind the iconic Legend tricolour design of iQOO’s flagship series, reflecting the brand’s dedication to high performance, speed, and excellence. The booth also showcased the world’s first commercial 200W FlashCharge technology, capable of fully charging a 4700mAh battery in just 10 minutes, thus revolutionizing the charging experience. Additionally, iQOO showcased its Supercomputing Chip Q1, a proprietary gaming chip designed to enhance computing capabilities with 144fps gaming, 900P level of Super Resolution and Game Frame Interpolation (MEMC), ensuring an immersive and smooth gaming experience.
On Tech Day 2024, third edition of the vivo India Impact Report was also unveiled, a comprehensive document that highlights steadfast commitment to India and its significant contributions to the country’s mobile ecosystem over the last 10 years. In 2023 edition of the report, vivo India highlights cumulative impact across ten different areas including Local Value Addition, Exports, Make in India, CSR and Employment, among others. It mentions that vivo India has manufactured around 150 million smartphones cumulatively in the past 9+ areas at its manufacturing facility in India.
Furthermore, the vivo India Impact Report 2023 underlined ‘vivo for India’ strategy, focused on enhancing all aspects of its business operations, from local manufacturing to rationalization of distribution, modernising local value addition and focus on Design for India to offer products according to the local needs and preferences of the consumers.
