In line with its continuous endeavor to strengthen network and connect different geographies, Vodafone India, one of India’s leading telecom service providers, has announced the launch of its network in Tawang District in Arunachal Pradesh, which is one of the most challenging terrains to set-up telecom infrastructure. Vodafone has now become the first private telecom operator to offer full fledged voice and data services to around 50,000 people (as per Census 2011 data) in the region.
With this launch, Vodafone has expanded its footprint in 12 districts of the state. It has so far deployed in excess of140 cell sites across the state and continues to expand its network. Vodafone had earlier announced its network expansion to Zero Point, Bomdila, Rupa, Tenga, Along, Basar and Daporijo in Arunachal Pradesh, and with this further expansion in Tawang Vodafone would now cover approximately460 towns & villages and more than 31 percent of the population in the state.
Commenting on this expansion, Alok Verma, Business Head – Assam and North East, Vodafone India said, “We at Vodafone India feel extremely proud to announce the expansion of our network presence a place which is 10, 000 feet above sea level – Tawang district in Arunachal Pradesh. For the first time, these distant customers will be able to exercise their choice for services and seamlessly connected to the rest of the country. We are further ramping up our network as part of our ongoing commitment to enhance our customers’ mobile experience by offering them an uninterrupted service. In Assam and North East Circle, Vodafone operates in seven states spanning across more than 19,000 towns and villages diverse in demographic landscape, catering to an equally diverse populace in terms of culture and language. Presently, with over 4800 cell sites, 77,000+ distribution touch points and more than 280+ retail touch points, Vodafone offers one of the most robust network connectivity to an overall subscriber base of 4.6 million in Assam and North East.
