Acer’s Liquid E700 and Liquid Jade not only mark Acer’s re-entry into the Indian market, but also mark the resolve to capture decent market share in the smartphone space.

Making a comeback in the Indian market, Acer’s mobile devices unit has launched two new smartphones, Liquid Jade and Liquid E700 at Rs 16,999 and Rs 11,999, respectively. The two Android smartphones will be available exclusively through e-commerce marketplace Snapdeal. The phones were first unveiled during Computex 2014 in June.

Allen Burnes, Acer Group’s VP (smartphones), commented, “At Acer we are conscious of the world getting faster and demanding more from life in every way. Their dependence on technology is growing and so we want to make their lives simpler and enriching. Therefore, while the Liquid Jade appeals to the elegant, beauty conscious and highly social user, the Liquid E700 is more suited to the upbeat business traveler who demands to remain connected round the clock. Its ‘always on’ capability helps users to multi-task between work and entertainment. All this comes sealed with the promise of quality from the Acer brand name. We have strong presence in IT business. IT industry is converging and at a point colliding with handset business. We want to leverage our strength of IT and smartphone business will compliment it. India is a big market, particularly a big wireless market and soon there will be wide spread of 3G and 4G services. Not being here will be a strategic error.”

“We have been present in the smartphone business for the last two years, but it has been a slow start. With the change in Acer’s philosophy, we want to refocus on our phone business. As of now, we have two models to launch in the first phase. Having said so, we will be expanding to our product portfolio in February 2015,” said Sanjeev Mehtani, Senior Director-Sales, Acer India.

“Mobiles and tablets are among the fastest growing segments for Snapdeal.com with customers becoming more feature- and value-conscious. Acer is globally known for its performance and smart computing systems. Acer now re-entering the Indian smartphone market and we are happy to partner with them,” said Abhishek Passi, VP for business strategy at Snapdeal.com. “At Snapdeal.com, we are constantly on the lookout for offering our customers great value buys and Acer smartphones are a valuable addition to our smartphone category.”
