Samsung India has contributed Rs 2.92 crore to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. The cheque was handed over to the Prime Minister’s Office by Mr. Hyun Woo Bang, Senior VP and Chief Relations Officer of Samsung India and Mr. Dipesh Shah, Senior VP and Deputy MD of Samsung Research India-Bangalore. The contribution is a part of Samsung’s ongoing CSR activities through which the Company aims to create positive change for people across the world.

The PMO appreciated Samsung’s continuing support to various social causes. Samsung also expressed its desire to participate in the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ scheme initiated at the behest of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Last year, the company donated Rs 3 crore to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund to aid relief operations in flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir.

“Our voluntary contribution to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund is aimed at contributing to existing relief efforts and also towards bolstering the fund. We deeply appreciate the commitment and leadership of the government managing relief efforts,” said Mr. Jason Dongwon Kwak, MD of Samsung Research India-Bangalore, which made the donation.

“Samsung lays strong emphasis on Corporate Social Responsibility, which is aimed at creating value for society by addressing societal needs and challenges,” he added.
Samsung India’s ongoing CSR initiatives are implemented in close partnership with government departments. The Samsung Smart Class initiative seeks to bridge the digital gap in India, lending support to the ‘Digital India’ programme. Samsung Smart Classes are set up in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas across the country and are equipped with Samsung smart screens and laptops to enable students learn in a digital, interactive environment. Samsung continues to expand the programme, based on positive feedback received from the schools on its impact on students’ learning and their attendance.
Samsung Technical Schools have been set up in collaboration with the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and Departments of Technical Education in New Delhi, Bihar, Rajasthan, Kerala and West Bengal. The Technical Schools enable underprivileged youth to gain technical skills that will equip them to seek job opportunities in the growing consumer electronics manufacturing and service sector. Samsung has been at the forefront in supporting the government’s ‘Make in India’ programme.
