The Supreme Court refused to entertain a petition filed by Federation of Automobile Dealers Association against the Chandigarh administration’s electric vehicle (EV) policy 2022.
A bench comprising Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, Justices PS Narasimha and JB Pardiwala noted that the matter is already pending before the Punjab and Haryana High Court and therefore, asked the petitioner to approach the High Court.
The policy under challenge was passed in light of the administration’s endeavour to promote eco-friendly transport. Therefore, it had stated that non-electric two wheelers would not be registered between February 10 and March 31 by the Registering and Licensing Authority.
The policy notified in September last year will be in effect for five years and during this time, efforts will be made to reduce and eventually stop registering fuel-run vehicles.
