During an interaction with Mobility magazine, Mr. Mandeep Arora, Managing Director, UBON elaborates the scope in mobile accessories space, their brand policies that have propelled growth of the company and the future of Make in India concept.

Q. How do you see the accessories market? Brief about the Indian market?
UBON brand, incorporated in 1999, offers a wide variety of products such as Bluetooth Speakers, Headphones, Earphones, Chargers, Cables & overall more than 125 accessories.
The tag line or punchline ‘Born to be free’ matches with the Indian market. The market in India is shifting slowly towards wireless chargers, neckbands, wireless TWS, etc.
How the market is changing?
The demand for mobile phone accessories has increased due to an upsurge in the disposable incomes and rise in the popularity of social networking sites in urban areas and Tier 3 and Tier 4 cities as well. In addition, increase in the internet penetration is also boosting the demand.
Consumers have become very smart in Tier 3 and Tier 4 cities too, with the penetration of smartphones. Consumers prefer to buy products post checking the rating and are very careful and are focusing more on the quality of the products.
What is the marketing strategy while positioning yourself in the market?
The USPs of our brand are cutting-edge technology, fun, stylish & quality-driven products within everyone’s reach and across all price segments. We position our neckbands top-class products with innovative designs and new age technology. We believe in communicating, delivering, and engaging the target audience. Our motto is to deliver the best quality products so that our customers feel satisfied after using our products. We have derived a very strong strategy to penetrate into the Tier 3 and Toer 4 markets.
Do you have any plans to go into the international markets?
We are getting contacts from other countries but we are waiting for the right time to crack the deal. We wish all the manufacturers in India will aim at exporting.
Which technology will rule the next two years? What new products are you planning?
The current trend is people are shifting from wired earphones and headphones to wireless technology that is becoming popular and affordable. Wireless accessories are driving the mobile phone accessories market growth now driven by the customer preference to listen to music on portable devices, such as smartphones and tablets. Wireless technology is the new norm. There is a huge opportunity in this segment. We want to focus more on wearables and TWS category.
Both product & packaging are different? What is opinion in this regard?
We have made walk tube videos where there is quality and backup. Our policy is to deliver the products beforehand.
How do you see the smartwatch segment?
Smartwatches are becoming popular among the youth as well as older populations, because the health-monitoring features appeal to all as they keep them updated about their health status in real-time. Smartwatch segment is growing very fast and it is huge too.
How are UBON’s Make in India going on?
UBON are planning to manufacture tempered glass, chargers, cables, neckbands, and speakers. Make in India is the only way we can make India self-reliant. Millions of people will get employment thru Make in India.
What message would you like to convey to others?
Keep growing and keep on innovating; just do not stop!
