Nikon has announced its latest mirror less compact camera, the Nikon 1 J5, which will available selling from late April onwards at a price of $500 or approx Rs 31,500 along with the 1 Nikkon 10-30mm kit lens. Nikon 1 J5 comes with a CX-format 1-inch 20.8MP BSI-CMOS sensor which drops the anti-aliasing filter for sharper images. It borrows the hybrid AF system from its predecessor Nikon 1 J4. It offers a continuous burst rate of 20 frames per second with full AF and at full resolution; and can even go up to 60 frames per second if the AF is fixed. Nikon has added in the EXPEED 5A image processor which improves the speed of shooting.
On the autofocus side, the Nikon 1 J5 offers 171 contrast-detect AF points and 105 phase-detect AF points, giving a speedy hybrid AF system. To further add to the quick focusing, Nikon has introduced the Sports Mode in the 1 J5.
The ISO range goes from ISO 100 to ISO 12800 and also allows you to shoot with noise reduction enabled at ISO 6400 and ISO 12800.
In terms of design, the Nikon 1 J5 has more pronounced dials as compared to the J4. Unlike the Nikon 1 J4, which had more of a flat top, the J5 has a more contoured design. Manual controls and PSAM exposure modes are accessible via the Mode Dial, while the Command Dial allows settings to be changed quickly and easily. It has a 3-inch 1037-k dot touchscreen LCD which can tilt by 180 degrees, clearly catering to the selfie-enthusiasts. It also offers a dedicated Self-portrait mode as well.
On the video front, the Nikon 1 J5 is capable of shooting 1080p/60p video and can also shoot at 120fps at HD resolutions for slow motion shooting. Apart from this the Nikon 1 J5 can shoot 4K video at 15p.
