In a special interview with Mobility Magazine, Mr. Milan R, Founder & CEO of Amson Interconnect, Nextech, discussed the brand’s journey, market standing, and mission and vision. He elaborated on the evolving IT sector and the brand’s role in this transformation.

Can you tell us how you got started in the telecom industry?

I started my journey in the software industry, but in 1994, there was a huge opportunity in the telecom sector with the Indian government realizing the importance of catching up with the IT revolution. Seeing this, I decided to venture into the telecom industry with Amson Interconnect, becoming one of the pioneering companies in the field.

What was the initial product that Amson Interconnect started with?

Initially, we focused on providing modular connectors, sockets & cables for the new telecom industry.  We started by supplying modular plugs, sockets & cables to major brands like TATA Phones, BPL etc. Amson became the first company to distribute mobile accessories in India.

How have you witnessed the Indian market change over the years, particularly in the telecom and IT sectors?

Over the years, we’ve seen significant shifts in the market landscape. From a time when electronics was considered as one domain to the industry & market expanding to have separate market segments- consumer electronics, mobility, IT, medical, CCTV etc. The tipping point being marked by the introduction of the iPhone in 2009. Subsequently, the rise of online platforms in 2012 and the emergence of wearables and hearables in 2015 and 2016 further transformed the market dynamics. It’s been a journey of constant evolution and adaptation to new technologies and consumer preferences.

What were some of the milestones that Amson Interconnect achieved during this journey?

One of our key milestones has been our commitment to innovation and being early adopters of new products. For instance, back in 2000, we were among the first companies to introduce fashion accessories like covers, cases & bags for mobile & iPad etc for luxury retail. Additionally, we take pride in being the first to manufacture chargers, power banks, DC UPS, display cables locally in India, a move that positioned us as OEM to major companies like Apple, Ingram Micro etc. Our focus has always been on delivering localized products with international quality standards.

Can you elaborate on the challenges you faced during this journey and how you overcame them?

Like any journey, ours has had its share of challenges. One of the major hurdles we faced was staying ahead of the curve in terms of technology and market trends. However, by fostering a culture of innovation and continuously investing in research and development, we were able to overcome these challenges. Additionally, building strong partnerships and staying responsive to customer feedback have been instrumental in our success.

What are the biggest innovations of your brand?

Innovation is vital in our industry. We focus on enhancing the user experience promised by primary brands like Apple, Samsung, OnePlus, Intel, and Dell. Our designs are ergonomic, trendy & compact with high performance. Owing to this, we were among the first license holders for mobility products for Apple brand in India back in 2010 (MFi cables & chargers). We have been developing unique universal products like USB-C Power Banks which can charge all your devices be it a laptop, tablet, smartphone, camera or even drones.

What are your service policies?

Our service policies are centred around delivering high quality products.  We encourage automation in all our business functions to ensure efficiency and reliability. We maintain the lowest defect rate in the industry and aim to continuously work on our designs, product performance & processes to deliver international standards to our customers at the most competitive prices.

How do you manage your partner relations?

Building trust and valuing our partners is key. We take initiatives whether pre-sales or post to ensure our partners feel cared for and supported. Some of our partnerships are over 20 years, showcasing the strength of our relationships. We believe in transparency of working and stay committed to respective partnerships, which sets us apart in the industry.
