Exercise is an important part of one’s overall health. It helps your heart and lungs work better, keeps your weight down, and makes muscles stronger and able to go longer. There exists no universe where doctors say bad things about exercise. Mobile devices are excellent for fitness and working out. These apps provide all-in-one fitness experiences. That includes fitness tracking, fitness routines, and various fitness-related reminders. Some of them even go so far as to count your calories, remind you to drink water, and other stuff like that.
Google Fit
This App is a bit of a lame pick, but it’s extremely serviceable and it’s one of the better free fitness apps. It can do a lot of stuff. You can track your fitness using a point system as well as active minutes. The app also features fitness goal tracking, customized tips, and integration with a variety of other apps like Runkeeper, Strava, MyFitnessPal, and others. You even get support for some hardware like Wear OS smart watches and Xiaomi Mi Bands. It’s more versatile than basically any other free fitness app and its integration with other apps makes it a little easier to recommend than most other free solutions.
Runtastic apps
Runtastic has one of the best running apps on mobile. However, they have spent a good portion of the last couple of years adding to their collection. Runtastic now maintains apps for water intake reminders, an HIIT workout planner, and healthy food recipes. There are individual exercise apps for things like push-ups, cycling, and pull-ups. It rounds it all out with a sleep tracker app, and even an individual timer app. They all worked well when we tested them. Some of them have single costs, some are free, and some fall under Runtastic’s monthly (or yearly) subscription. There are a ton of fitness features in these apps.
MyFitnessPal
MyFitnessPal is one of the most popular fitness apps on mobile. It does a little bit of everything. It bills itself as a calorie counter app. The app supports stuff like various diets, foods, and macros if you’re into that stuff. It also tracks basically any exercise, connects to dozens of other devices and apps, logs and tracks your progress, and it even has little things like workout timers and step tracking. However, there are few fitness apps or even diet apps with the level of depth and integration that MyFitnessPal has.
Stronglifts 5×5
Stronglifts 5×5 is a good strength training app with the 5×5 style of weightlifting. You basically do five sets of five reps with weights heavy enough to where you’re maxing yourself out by the end of the fifth set. It has a very specific workout schedule. You workout 45 minutes a day, three days a week. It also comes with a variety of tracking features, graphs, and even Wear OS support. This is a fairly popular weightlifting method and a lot of people really enjoy it. The subscription is inexpensive comparatively speaking, but only if you go for the yearly subscription price. There are some free features, though.
