Homegrown wi-fi communications and semiconductor chipset maker Saankhya Labs Pvt. Ltd is trying to commercially launch its direct-to-mobile expertise by 2023 which can enable video streaming on mobiles at 5G speeds, without entry to information plans provided by telecom corporations.
The indigenously developed expertise, which is at a proof of idea stage, will enable cell producers to embed a chip into handsets for accessing broadcast radio head developed by the corporate, which can join to the wi-fi community and allow direct streaming to the telephone. Existing handsets have to use a dongle to get entry to the service.
The proof of concept has been submitted to IIT Kanpur and Prasar Bharati. It will enable telcos to offload video traffic on their networks to broadcast airwaves in the 470-582 Mhz band held by the national broadcaster.
