What new innovations can we expect from MediaTek?
We’ve introduced two exciting new verticals this year. Firstly, satellite communication, enabling connectivity even in remote areas without 5G coverage. This innovation has gained remarkable momentum and is on its way to becoming mainstream. Secondly, the Dimensity Automotive series comprising autoconnect, components, cockpit, and drive chipsets, aims to propel the evolution of self-designed vehicles. These chipsets will transform vehicles into highly sophisticated computers, demanding substantial semiconductor support. MediaTek’s announcement of these advancements has already garnered strong interest from customers, positioning it as a significant growth driver in the foreseeable future.
What message you would like to give?
We’re rapidly evolving our technology landscape, embracing connectivity that permeates every aspect of our lives—home, cars, and outdoors. This widespread adoption presents vast opportunities for entrepreneurs and industry players, promising a bright and dynamic future ahead.
What role does MediaTek plays in developing AI?
MediaTek, a prominent chip company, serves various verticals including smartphones where we hold a significant global market share. Beyond smartphones, we craft chipsets for Smart TVs, routers, automotive, and satellite communication, driving the digital revolution. Speaking of AI, our recent flagship, the MediaTek Dimensity 9300 chipset, boasts exceptional edge AI capabilities. This allows running AI applications directly on devices, ensuring privacy and swift responses without relying on connectivity. Supporting up to 33 billion parameters, it marks a monumental leap in chipset capability. We’ve long championed AI in handsets, from facial recognition to AI Processing Units, witnessing remarkable progress. As we enter an exciting AI phase, MediaTek continues to play a pivotal role in this transformative landscape.
Can India become a semi-conductor manufacturer?
Make in India encompasses various facets. India excels in semiconductor design, boasting 20% of global talent. Electronics manufacturing, notably in mobiles and other electronic goods, has gained momentum. While chip manufacturing is on the horizon, recent announcements signal progress, like the 80MP investment in packaging and testing. Foreign players establishing manufacturing plants in India signal a rapidly evolving ecosystem, crucial for the industry’s further enhancement.
What are the challenges do you see and how India can overcome them?
At MediaTek, our core focus is R&D, propelling us to constantly innovate and stay at the forefront of technology. While we’re currently immersed in 5G, our sights are set on the future with ongoing work on 6G technology. However, a challenge lies in securing the right talent to fuel our advancements.
Additionally, we’re keenly observing the evolution of the ‘Make in India’ initiative, as a robust local ecosystem could facilitate collaboration and growth, benefiting both India and our company significantly.
