In an exclusive interview with Mobility magazine, Mr. Shital Shah, Classic Teams & shared about the future goals of the gifting association, problems faced due to government policies.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and your organization, the Corporate Gift Association of India?
I am a member of the Corporate Gift Association of India, and we have been actively involved in the corporate gifting sector for the past 32 years. Our specialization lies in providing branded products, mainly apparel, for corporate gifting purposes. In India, the corporate gifting segment is valued at more than 60,000 Crore, making it a substantial industry. Our association was formed to bring together various players in the industry and address the challenges we face collectively, aiming for excellence in the gifting industry.
Could you tell us which specific segment the Corporate Gift Association of India focuses on?
As an association, we primarily focus on the corporate gifting segment, particularly in the realm of branded products like apparel. Our aim is to streamline the industry and provide a platform for various stakeholders to collaborate and enhance the gifting experience for corporate clients.
How did the association come into existence? What prompted its formation?
A few years back, we faced several challenges due to government policies, which affected the industry as a whole. To address these issues collectively, we decided to unite and create the “Corporate Gift Association of India.” We now have over 500 members across the country, all working together to find solutions and improve conditions for our members.
What are your plans for the future and the main objectives you aim to achieve?
Our primary objective is to urge the government of India to reconsider section 194R, which has led to dual taxation and negatively impacted our industry. We seek to either remove this section or obtain a suitable concession to alleviate the burden on our association and its members.
Can you explain the process through which the Corporate Gift Association of India operates to achieve its goals?
We offer membership at a nominal fee of Rs12000 per year, allowing access to 4-5 programs and get-togethers annually. During these gatherings, we invite expert speakers who guide us on various social and business subjects, ensuring that we are aligned and well-informed. It’s an excellent way to foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing within the association.
How do you perceive the future of the industry?
Despite the hurdles we face, the corporate gifting industry in India is witnessing significant growth. With the collective efforts of the association and the support of renowned individuals, we remain optimistic about the industry’s potential for further expansion and development.
Lastly, what message would you like to share with your peers and others in the corporate gifting sector?
My message would be to foster a spirit of collaboration and mutual support among industry players. By working together, sharing insights, and engaging in constructive dialogue, we can overcome challenges more effectively and collectively strive for excellence in the corporate gifting industry.
