In 2019, Avneet Singh Marwah was listed among the top leaders by Entrepreneur India Magazine in its annual Top 40 under 40 list, among many other accolades received for the company’s portfolio.
During a long freewheeling chat with Mobility magazine, Mr. Avneet Singh Marwah, the Director and CEO of Super Plastronics Pvt. Ltd., took us through the journey of manufacturing and its strategies for extensive focus on the Indian TV market.
What has been the reason for you been the manufacturing icon?
Super Plastronics Private Limited is also one of India’s premium Made-in-India brands. Along with a number of other firsts under its belt, the company also became the first to be given the official brand license for Google Android to make the software in India within the bounds of its expansive manufacturing facilities.
As a manufacturer, we possess the advantage of readily available spare parts, enabling us to promptly address issues. This capability, combined with our stringent quality control measures, ensures that our products maintain the highest standards of quality and performance. Our extensive service network, rapid response times, and unwavering commitment to excellence reflect our dedication to providing top-tier customer support, which is why our service and return rates are the lowest in the category.
What are the scope and opportunities in manufacturing in India?
I believe in the progress of the country and that we should be second to no one, which is why I wholeheartedly support the Make in India initiative. I feel that India’s growing consumer spending market presents immense opportunities for businesses, driven by government initiatives like Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
Currently, SPPL holds licenses for Kodak TV, Thomson TV, Blaupunkt TV, Westinghouse and White Westinghouse WM. I feel really humbled to be part of this journey, becoming India’s fastest-growing smart TV brand, and am excited to grow these brands in other categories like washing machines, speakers, air conditioners, etc.
SPPL is among the few companies in India to partner with Google and launch Android TVs at an extremely affordable price. SPPL is also the first company to manufacture a 65-inch official Android TV in India.
Discuss about the different product lines that you operate in?
SPPL is a 30-year-old manufacturing firm that was incorporated in 1997, before which it was known as Super Plast. The business was started by the chairman of the company, Mr. Amarjeet Singh Marwah, from a small shed that mainly consisted of plastic injection molding.
To expand the prospects and verticals of the company, SPPL has become a brand licensee of Eastman Kodak Company, Rochester, USA, for Kodak HD LED TVs in India. Kodak, as a brand, has one of the best recall values in the world. Kodak TV is a well-known brand from the USA, and Android TV is a fast-selling HD LED TV in India. Kodak TV India will invest more than Rs 500 crore over the next three years in a fully automated, affordable Android Smart TV manufacturing plant in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, as a commitment to the ‘Make in India’ initiative. Kodak TV, among India’s top 5 online-selling brands, has a major counter share in large format retail. It has more than 1.5 million happy customers in India, a 4.3-plus rating, and more than 1,00,000 certified reviews.
Blaupunkt is a German brand for consumer electronics, car multimedia, and related consumer lifestyle products. More than 40 licensees around the world distribute Blaupunkt products on all continents in more than 90 countries in the categories of audio, video, TV, car multimedia, mobile telephony, e-mobility, home appliances, security systems, cleaning robots, air conditioning, e-mobility, and many more.
For more than 130 years, Westinghouse has stood for innovative, reliable, high-quality products and customer service. A combination of groundbreaking technology and rock-solid dependability has made Westinghouse one of the world’s most trusted brands.
Thomson (Technicolor SA), a premium French brand TV, is completely being manufactured in India under SPPL, which recently set up the manufacturing plant to boost its ‘Make in India’ initiatives. Thomson aims to increase its market share in the Indian TV market to 4.5 percent by 2019–20. With the recent licensing of custom Android software, the smart TV manufacturer’s sales target is about half a million units by the year 2021.
Discuss your strong R&D.
As of today, SPPL is one of the foremost OEMs in the LED industry and runs successful brands of its own. SPPL has manufacturing units in Noida over 28 company-owned branch offices across India.
With more than 1,000 dedicated employees working round the clock to provide best-in-class service to the customer, the main aim of the brand is to emerge as a one-stop solution partner in the field of electronic manufacturing services by maximizing efficiency, honest pricing, and technological innovation.
What is the message that you would like to give to the younger generation?
I believe that the younger generation should boost manufacturing in India, succeed in embracing digital transformation, and address logistics inefficiencies. They also need to build trust and loyalty among consumers and adapt to changing preferences. By leveraging these strategies, businesses can navigate the evolving consumer landscape in India and unlock its immense potential for growth and success.
What are your future goals?
SPPL manufactures products under four categories: TVs, washing machines, coolers, and ACs. The company plans to expand its manufacturing facility beyond these home appliances. Also, we plan to export to international markets.
