Dear Readers,
Greetings from Mobility Magazine!
Minister of Electronics and IT, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar announced that the Government of India aims to increase the capability of production of electronics to Rs 24 lakh crores by fiscal year 2026. This is expected to create 10 lakh additional jobs and push up the status of India in the global value chain.
Next, the Indian govt has drawn up plans to invest Rs 10,000 crores to develop Andaman and Nicobar (A&N) into a maritime hub. A&N, being at a strategic location between the mainland India and east Asian countries, is expected to play a pivotal role as a gateway to the east for trading and economic activity. The plan includes the development of port infrastructure, the acquisition of vessels to run mainland-inland services, the purchase of tugs for safe berthing and sprucing up docking capacity. The A&N administration is also planning to declare Port Blair a free trade area, but only clean and non-polluting industries will be allowed. The plan, aimed at boosting the economic development of the region, is also expected to create 1000s of new jobs.
